They gathered in the early morning light, often coming from great distances to show their devotion. Ukrainian Muslims congregated to observe Eid al Adha, or Kurban Bajram as they often call it. The day marks the expression of the way of life of Islam: Care for one's neighbor for example and devotion to the belief in one God

Overcrowding is often a problem on Kurban Bajram. In this central Mosque in Kiev, there was no room to turn. But the overcrowding presents a unique opportunity to observe the different peoples that make up a unique melting pot in Ukraine.

Multiculturalism is very palpable today as people in the mosque celebrating the Eid speak different languages and have come from different countries.

The main ceremony here is a sacrificial. it takes place mostly outside the town.

According to the Muslim tradition, the meat will be divided into three parts to shared the poor, and neighbors. However in Ukraine as we were told Muslims often left the hole animal to the good of needy.
