The Kiev prince Vladimir receives ambassadors from all religions, including the
Ottoman Empire, and selects Orthodox Christianity as the state religion of the Kiev Russ.

1266

After the attacks, the Tatar-Mongols, who before converted to Islam, settle in
Crimea, mix up with local population (mainly Kipchak). The Khan Oran-Timur becomes the owner of the Crimean Yurta.

XIV century.

Some noble Tatar families from the Golden Horde come on military service to grand dukes of Lithuania, receive the land and form the Tatar communities on the territory of modern Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, and
Russia.

1441

The Crimean Khanate gets independence from the Horde. The Khan Hadzhi I Gerey becomes the first owner with support of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

XV - XVII centuries.

The Ottoman Empire makes expansion to the
Northern
Black Sea
Coast, grasps some fortresses and bases its colonies.

1478

The Crimean Khanate loses independence and becomes the vassal of the
Ottoman Empire. Appointment and elimination of Khans takes place from
Istanbul.

1783

As a result of the Russian-Turkish wars, the Russian army occupies the peninsula. Catherine the II publishes the manifesto; therefore
Crimea becomes the territory of the Russian Empire.

2nd half of the XIX – 30-s' of the XX centuries.

In the course of the industrial development of Donbass the significant amount of labor force is delivered from the Russian Volga region – they are mainly Tatars from the
Penza province. Tatar settlements arise in big cities of Ukraine, particularly in
Kiev.

1944

After the German armies left the
Crimea, the local Tatar population was accused of cooperation with invaders. About 200 thousand of the Crimean Tatars were deported to Siberia and
Central Asia.

1989

Starts returning of the Crimean Tatars to their historical native land. In 1991 is created the Medzhlis of the Crimean-Tatar people.
