“Crimean Tatars: Between The Past And The Future”

23.04.2014 / 906

44% of Crimean Tatars think that their national culture and patriotism is on the rise at the moment; at the same time 36% bemoan the decay. These are results of the survey the Youth Social Organisation “Emel” had done in the social networks, were on a scheduled session of their Discussion Club, held at Simferopol ICC on March 21. More than 50 people of different age came to share their vision of the future of the Crimean Tatars.

“The Crimean Tatars living standards increased, and there are more and more people getting education — but what is the quality of this education? What level of knowledge every of the diploma owners really has?” — Mr. Mamut Churlu, the famous Crimean artist, voiced his worries. Matters of Economics, Art, ethnic identity, culture, etc. were on discussion as well.

This can’t be changed unless there is a clear understanding that all social progress isn’t initiated by some miracle, but in the minds of the contemporaries; unless there is a more or less development plan, both for an individual and for the whole ethnic group. Mr. Seiran Arifov, Master of Shariah, noted that moral sins find their reflection in science, politics, culture, economy, and the rest of the spheres.

While in discussion, the participants gave their own proposals on filling the gaps in the youth’s knowledge of their own history, culture, religion and language; and on what could motivate the young people to start doing the most difficult thing ever, namely changing themselves for the better.
