Congregation of Kharkiv Islamic Cultural Centre made sure that their poor brothers and sisters in faith had a bit less to worry about winning bread for their tables during the Holy month of Ramadan and not be distracted by those thoughts while worshiping. For that reason, 215 Kharkiv Muslim families received grocery packs on 18 May.

Each of the packs contained tea, oil, sugar, pasta, rise, buckwheat and groats of millet. According to Yeahen Hlushchenko, Imam at the ICC’s mosque, first of all they tried to help the elderly people, large families, and Muslim families in difficult financial situation who recently approached the ICC for help and supported their claim with respective documents.

Besides, every weekend the city’s Muslims are welcome to join free iftar meals at the ICC. The tables are laid to accommodate about 500 people, so none of the guests had to leave the gathering hungry.  Additional night taraweeh prayers are held daily, and about 300 believers come to join them every night.
