Children’s Club “An-Noor” assembles on Saturdays, so there wasn’t a great choice of dates for holding a concert confined to the Mother’s Day, it was either a day before or a week later. They chose the next Saturday — and got a full-house!

Despite the fact only 20 pupils of the Club were on stage, there was way more audience — more than 50 women came. In general the Club is attended by more than 5 dozen kids.

Even the traditional Qur’an recitation in the beginning of the event was unusual: the kids used sheets of paper with printed words to make a quotation from Ayah 14 of Surah “Lukman”: “And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination.”

The children sang, recited playful poems, competed in “who knows polite words best of all”, “who collects the mess of toys fastest of all”,spoke about their feelings towards their mothers when passing around the heart-shaped balloon…

The mothers weren’t only passive viewers: they played cricket with brooms and balls, and remembered the sleepless nights spent near the cradle: the children cried in turn, and mothers tried to recognize their offsprings by their voices.

By the sweet buffet every mother had a bunch of candy flowers made by their children in advance. Besides, the visitors could discuss over a cup of tea the exhibition of mothers’ portraits drawn by the kids.
