The Chairman of "Arraid" in Ukraine Condemns Terror under Cover of Islam

Kyiv – “We Muslims must fight against the dissemination of ideas that support terror under the cover of Islam in our surroundings. We cannot forget that Islam promotes peace. This religion is based on respect for human life.” With these words Dr. Ashur Faruq, the chairman of "Arraid", the Ukrainian Muslim Interregional Association of Social Organizations, addressed the Muslims of Kyiv on 22 July 2005. About 500 people gathered that day in the mosque of the Islamic Civic Cultural Center.

Speaking to Muslima, Dr. Faruq stressed that according to the laws of Islam, the life of an innocent person is untouchable, regardless of his or her faith. He emphasized the fact that nowadays in occupied Iraq, as in other countries, hundreds of innocent people die because of terrorost's attacks.

“Some groups going against basic principles of Islam, assume the right to arbitrarily shed blood in its name, without thinking about terrible consequences of such actions. The tragic events in London led to the death of more than 50 peaceful citizens, including Muslims, which caused new flashes of animosity towards Islam and Muslims in the entire world,” said Dr. Faruq.

He also stressed that Muslims living in the West, including Ukraine, are members of Western society, that is why they should make every effort to support their countries’ development and prosperity.
