Open Letter to Mass-Media and Ukrainian Society

In the course of recent years in the Ukrainian information space periodically appear messages about the threat of terrorism which is claimed to loom above Ukraine. However, all the information which concerns this "threat" seems to be too monotonous and deprived of any concrete and trustworthy facts.

Frequently these messages are attached to the Crimean peninsula. Moreover, these "sensational" materials are thrown at the information space of the country right away the resort season starts. These materials are accompanied by the "reproach" to the security service for their supposed incompetence and inactivity before "the looming threat".

In this connection several questions appear: why and what for such unreasonable applications «from the corner» about terrorist threat in Ukraine appear regularly in mass-media of our country, despite of regular applications of officials for the opposite?

Who gets the profit for creating intensity on the interreligious ground in the society?

During 15 years of independence very favorable conditions for peaceful co-existence of different cultures, traditions and religions was formed in Ukraine, which is based on the principles of tolerance, democracy, good neighbourhood and mutual respect. However, it is obvious that civil peace in Ukraine does not suit everyone by several reasons. Therefore someone persistently tries to destabilize the society and to discredit Moslems of Ukraine whose significant part lives in Crimea.

Moslems of Ukraine more than anyone else are interested in stability and preservation of peace in the society. Therefore we, the members of Association "Al-Raid", address to the public with our request to not yield to provocations in mass-media, to treat articles of that kind judiciously, and to trust information from authentic sources what official applications of working authority responsible for safety in the country are.

We consider that provocative messages of that kind prevent establishment of the state functioning in accordance with constitutional law. They destroy the principles of democracy, tolerance and mutual respect which gradually affirm in our young multinational country.
